More painting, more learning, more practice

Yesterday I hung about 9 new paintings of Animal Aid pups in
Plantiques.

I'm discovering that painting a glossy black dog is much harder than I'd thought.
Highlights in Titanium white after building transparent white/black layers...now I just
need more practice. I like Black Spinel (Gamblin) for this.

More practice and brush strokes. Also need to practice noses. Today I'll
practice noses.

  1. Ah what sweet faces! You are doing such good work and I much admire your dedication to helping the Animal Aid society. I feel quite honored that you chose my Sierra to paint and I love the painting. Thank you!!

  2. It's so nice to send that little painting to her new home and that you like it.
Looking at a dog for painting kind of allows me to peek inside of who
they are. Sierra was one very, very happy camper! What a joy to 'see' her.
Take care and keep your eyes open for incoming dogs...they know when
a good person's got room for one more.

  3. Wonderful work Patty...I LOVE the eyes in the last one! I like to mix an almost black color with thalo or prussian blue and just about any brown color. It makes a nice very dark color.

  4. Hey, I'll have to try that color addition. I've been using color mostly out
of the tube but lately have been mixing more colors. I'll try your suggestion
as I have prussian blue on hand. I'm gratified you like the eyes on Moose
(that's his real name, he lives at the shelter). I thought they looked back
    when I'd finished.
